Amnesia - How do people know what Daniel looks like?

There's a ton of fan art, and I'm probably being COMPLETELY oblivious here, but how do people know what he wears and that his hair is (apparently) brown? Was there a portrait of him hanging somewhere in the castle? I'm so confused! XD
