Music school for music production. where should i go?

i want to go to school for music production, i was looking at SAE in San Francisco or La, then i was looking at Institute of Audio Research IAR in New York, but i dont know which one is better. i was looking at SAE because its closer, Im from Salt lake City, Utah... one thing that gets me is that i never made a beat before and i want to learn how to make them, i might take piano lessons some time. do you guys think its better if i learn how to make beats with hardware as in MPC, keyboards etc. first then go to the open house at the school, or still try to know how to make beats. because im having a hard time knowing what to do. Another thing if i do go to SAE in San Fran. will it be hard to make beats or concentrate on school when i have a job? can you people help me out with this please!!!
