He probably does like you if he was looking at you. Also don't take what he said to your friend too seriously, he answered quick because he was nervous and didn't want to admit that he liked you to her in case you didn't like him back or something and he just may not have wanted to tell your friend he liked you. Talk to him, see how he responds to you, does he get nervous, do his eyes get bigger (doesn't work if it is in a dark place) does he enjoy seeing and talking to you? Just look for signs.
